Bedrooms are important in Feng Shui for obvious reasons. A third of our day is spent in bed; your bed and your bedroom have to have good Feng Shui to support your personal energy. If you have placed your bed incorrectly you might have experienced nightmares, frequent sicknesses, low spirits and insomnia all the time. Here we have a few tips for you to avoid when placing your bed:

Bedroom door facing the headboard

It is best to avoid having the bedroom door on either side of the bed. If the room is too small to allow alternate placement, you can place a cabinet or a bedside table in between the bed and the bedroom door to block the conflicting energy flow to your bed.

Bed aligned with the bedroom door

If your bed is leaning on the same wall with the bedroom door you might likely experience mental instability and poor quality sleep. Other problems may occur such as extreme mood swings and short temper. Best to move the bed so that it is not in line with the door. If this is not possible to allow any other placement, try using a piece of furniture in between the bed and the wall. A bench or a small shelving unit with a solid back will weaken the conflicting energy flow to the bed.

Good Bed Placement

The best bed placement is the area further from the door or diagonally from the door, but not inline with the door. In other words you want to be able to see the door while in bed, but not be aligned with the door just like the following examples:

Mirrors are very important in Feng Shui and are used for several different reasons. The usage of mirrors in the home or office can be used to attract and harness the good energy and deflect bad energy away. Therefore it is important that mirrors are used properly. Here is some of the common incorrect placement of mirrors causing bad Feng Shui:

Mirror facing the main door

In Feng Shui point of view, the house absorbs positive energy through the main door, if a mirror is placed directly facing the main door, it will reflect the positive energy that is about to enter the house, bringing arguments, sickness and emotional problems to the family. Unless your house has extremely bad Feng Shui, a mirror should never be placed facing the main door.

Mirror facing the washroom door

A mirror facing the washroom door will drain the bad energy to the rest of the house. The washroom in Feng Shui is driven by the element Water. Water refers as kidneys, urinary bladder and urological system. Those living in the house are more likely to have problems in these organs. The best advice is to remove the mirror facing this door.

Mirror facing the kitchen door

Similarly, the water energy in a washroom above, the kitchen extinguishes the earth’s Fire energy. In Feng Shui, Fire refers as eye, skin and blood, if you place a mirror to reflect this negative energy from the kitchen to the rest of house, you will likely have problems in these organs. The simplest solution would be taking the mirror down or covering it up. If that is not possible, you can place a tall leafy plant in front of the mirror to block the negative energy from going to the rest of the house.

Mirror facing the bed

Mirrors are thought to bounce energy around the bedroom, which may result in poor sleep and restlessness. They’re also said to amplify worries, poor concentration and dizziness. It is only a problem if the mirror faces your bed and you can see your face and upper body in the reflection. If the mirror looks sideways onto your bed it is not a problem.

However, you should avoid a mirror facing the end of the bed or facing the bedroom door. On a practical aspect a mirror image of a person may frighten a person who is still half asleep. If you cannot remove the mirror from the room, cover with a piece of fabric when you go to sleep.

It is very common in Hong Kong to find residential homes with the front door, path leading straight to a bedroom through to a window or a balcony. In Feng Shui point of view, it is important to avoid a direct alignment of the front door to a window in the living room or in a bedroom. The reason you want to avoid this situation is because all good Feng Shui wealth energy coming through the front door will easily escape straight through the window without having a chance to circulate the wealth energy flow into the house.

If your house or apartment is leaking wealth from Feng Shui point of view, no matter how much you earn, you will spend every dime you make and you will have difficulty to retain money or build up savings.

The energy flows from the front door straight out of the window
To cure this unfortunate situation you need to disperse the wealth energy from the front door and spread it out. To do this you can place a leafy plant, ideally tall with small pointy leaves between the front and the window to spread the outflow of the energy.

One of the most commonly used Feng Shui plants in Hong Kong is Podocarpus macrophyllus 羅漢松 (also known as Buddhist Pine). It will also make your house even more beautiful and will achieve the effect of redirecting the energy into the house.

Alternatively you can place a screen (wider and taller than the main door) about 4 feet inward from the front door in the house to stop the energy from rushing out through the window or balcony.

Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed over thousands of years ago in China, often known as Chinese Geomancy. It is a natural science, which theorises that the environment is considered an integral element in the art of living.

Often people believe a large portion of Feng Shui analysis requires a personal and subjective interpretation of the given data, this lack of understanding of the key concepts in Chinese philosophy often turned Chinese metaphysics into superstitions. Because Feng Shui involves a multi-disciplinary approach to its practice, we should not look at it only from a Western scientific point of view.

In fact, Feng Shui teaches us how to create harmony and balance. By taking a good look at the environment around us and by opening ourselves to it, we can make the appropriate changes in our work and living space enabling a healthier and more energetic life.

Feng Shui @ Hong Kong uses Feng Shui by arranging furnishings and décor in a way that aligns with nature to draw harmony and good health into our lives.

We use the concept of a Chinese mathematical system developed by scholars through observations accumulated over thousands of years in China. It is method of harmonising a man-made environment and the calculation of time and space. It can be regarded as a science incorporating astronomy, geography, the environment, the magnetic field, and physics.

Based on a unique system that mathematically calculates the most favourable direction for your living and work place, we can help you to achieve balance and harmony in your living and help you improve your Health, Wealth and Happiness. Whether it is for selection of a home, buying or selling a new house or re-arranging your furnishing, there is a Feng Shui way to do it.
